"As my first time elk and mule deer hunting, I don't think it is possible to have had a better hunt. Four out of six hunters in our camp went home with 5x5 or larger bull elk. I saw numerous bull elk within the first couple of days. Killing my 5x6 on the second day and seeing many large mule deer was not a problem with the skillful help of our outfitters. Not only did they help you experience the hunt, but also other game and the beautiful mountains that cover the area. Their equipment including the horses was excellent. Home cooked meals in camp were a common thing. Camp was set up for comfort and convenience. Any request was met timely and professionally. The trip into and from camp was organized and seamless. They scouted the hunting area thoroughly beforehand to make sure we were placed in strategic spots. I have waited many years for a chance to hunt elk, and they made it a trip of a lifetime. I would like to thank you and your staff for a wonderful hunt. You made a lifelong dream come true by helping me get a beautiful 5x5 bull on the 4th day of my muzzleloader hunt.
I have been on a lot of hunts and you and your guides do a great job of doing everything possible to make the hunt a success. The hunt was great, the scenery was fantastic and I would like to think that I gained some lifelong friends.

"The hunt was everything and more than I expected. The three guides were very knowledgeable of how to hunt elk and knew the entire area they were hunting. They walked and hunted to the pace I was able to maintain due to me not being used to the altitude. The guides were persistent at hunting and not afraid to go to areas they knew contained elk and access after the elk was shot would be almost impossible for the horses to get to the animal for packing out. My elk was in one of those areas and it took many hours for them to get to it for packing out. The food was great and there was something different every night for dinner. The country we were in was truly a wilderness. Its beauty was breath taking and the experience alone was well worth being there for the hunt."

Just a note to let you know that I really had a great time on the hunt with Elk Basin Outfitters. Hunting in the
primitive area north of Paonia was a real experience. We didn't see any other hunting camps in there during our
entire hunt and I found that to be rare in Colorado, usually on public land we have seen another camp around each
bend in the trail. I appreciated the professionalism of your guides; they busted their butts to put us on Elk but
they took into account my 59-years and didn't try to kill me--they kept it to my pace and that was good. I also know that Danny and Caroll could probably chase an Elk down and
hog tie him if they wanted to. I saw quite a few elk and three bulls that were easily over 300,
unfortunately, only the spikes and cows kept coming to within easy muzzle loader range, the bulls were "chip
shot" with rifles but a might far for my muzzle loader. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful experience and I
look forward to hunting with you guys in the not too distant future.

"For the past 35 yrs I have hunted Elk/Deer/Antelope in the western
states and the last 20 in Colorado.I do recommend the ELK BASIN OUTFITTER very high. Dan runs a good camp with
a friendly atmosphere. He works hard to get everyone into game and he is a caring person--by that I mean he wants
to give you a good hunt, one you will remember.Dan is not one to take your money and do little to get you game." |
