About Elk Basin This is a family run business offering true wilderness hunts. We operate under a USFS permit in game management unit #53 of western Colorado. Our camps are set in the West Elk Wilderness. We are licensed, bonded, and insured outfitters. We are proud members of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Colorado Outfitters Association.Our camps are set at about 9400 ft. with hunting elevations ranging from 8400 ft. to 12,700 ft. above sea level. In order to hunt this majestic area, we utilize both horse and foot methods. You will be lodged in tent camps with a limited number of hunters. Our hunting area is not for the weak hearted. It is a very steep and rugged country. Shots range from up close in the timber to 300+ yards. Due to altitude and variable weather conditions, we suggest you bring the appropriate clothing.
